Xactimate
Insurance & Restoration
The estimating software the property insurance industry has largely standardized on for pricing repair work after a claim, made by Verisk's Xactware division.
What it does
Xactimate lets an adjuster, restoration contractor, or public adjuster sketch a damaged structure's layout, measure the areas affected, and price the repair using a shared, regionally localized line-item price list. Because nearly every party to a claim references the same underlying price list, a dispute over an estimate usually comes down to specific line items rather than two completely incompatible formats. A field visit can start an estimate on a tablet or phone, with the same file finished later back at a desk, so the office and field sides of the work stay in one record instead of two.
Key features
- 2D and 3D sketching tools for drawing a damaged structure's layout from field measurements
- A standardized, regionally priced line-item database that every party to a claim can reference against
- Mobile capture in the field with the estimate finished later on desktop, so a site visit doesn't require carrying a laptop
- Photo documentation attached directly to specific line items in the finished estimate
How it's actually used
- An insurance adjuster sketches a water-damaged room's dimensions on a tablet during an inspection and finishes pricing the repair later from the same file
- A restoration contractor and an adjuster compare two independently written estimates for the same loss line item by line item to negotiate their specific disagreements
